We spoke with FBA member, Richard Porter from AgXtra, to learn more about his family business and the contributions the business is making to local communities.
Tell us about your business and what makes it unique?
Established in 2002, AgXtra is an Australian-owned business, operating in SA, VIC, and NSW. Rooted in family values, we foster a deep connection to our land, its custodians, our industry, and our community. Our commitment extends to facilitating the development and adoption of new technologies for Australian farmers, creating value through a dedicated team focused on communication, innovation, and safety.
Driven by the evolving landscape of Agriculture and an unwavering pursuit of enhanced sustainability, we collaborate with a diverse clientele, both local and global in origin. Our applied research services yield tangible outcomes, positively impacting farm productivity, viability, food security, and environmental health. At AgXtra, our mission transcends business; it's a holistic endeavour to contribute meaningfully to the agricultural ecosystem and the communities in which we serve.
What has been your greatest success?
As a business we have endured and grown each year, through a diverse set of challenges and opportunities, which is a significant success in itself. Great rewards have come through the relationships built with staff, client growers and industry representatives. Our two greatest impacts and legacies lie in our ability to contribute to the career progression of so many individuals but also in our role in the continued evolution of sustainable and efficient farming practices in this country.
What do you value about FBA?
What started as an opportunity to control work-life balance has turned into a far greater pursuit at AgXtra. The transition from sole trader to a two-generation family business brings with it legacy and succession considerations. The supportive environment that FBA and its membership provide is quite remarkable, and I see the assistance that can be provided to myself and also to the next generation of our family in the coming years. The opportunities for fellowship, support services and networking are highly valued, and the FBA community is one which we find is aligned with our own values.
