Tell us about your business.
Our family has always been in the car wash industry. My parents have always been entrepreneurial and have always worked for themselves. My sister and I moved to Darwin 2 years ago and mum and dad came to visit us. Dad went to wash my sister's car for her and found an older car wash that he believed he could improve and make work for our family. We have a car wash in Mt. Isa that has been running since 2009, so this made sense. Dad is always looking for an opportunity! So 5 months later, we did the renovations and launched our new business in Darwin.
I run the day-to-day business, and dad is always there to assist me with any technical questions I have. Mum does the books, so we are always communicating and working together.
Our 2 brand-new Touch Free automatics car washes set our business apart from all the other car washes in Darwin. We imported these from the States, and they are the most reliable, efficient automatic car washes in Darwin. Even if there are 2 cars in front of you, you can be in and out within 20 minutes! We also offer the most time for our vacuums. Most of our competitors offer 1 min for $1. We offer nearly double the amount of time, and people are noticing this and telling their friends.
What has been your greatest success?
Building relationships with customers and seeing them come back! Because I am here every day, I get to chat with our customers and build a relationship. It's really rewarding when I see customers come back again and again and stop to say hello!
What do you value about FBA?
We joined FBA to meet like-minded people and have the opportunity to speak and connect with.
It's good to meet people who are going through similar things and to see how they manage their business.
What advice would you give to other family businesses?
To make sure you have clear and honest communication. As soon as you are unsure of something, make sure you clarify your understanding. If you do this, you can't run into too much trouble!
