Meet Our Member: Enviromesh

We spoke with Nicola Lester from Enviromesh about helping the construction industry embrace more sustainable reinforcement solutions. Tell us about your business.

Enviromesh is a proudly Australian, family-owned business specialising in the manufacture and supply of synthetic fibres for concrete reinforcement predominantly within the construction and infrastructure sectors.

In 2020 my father, Alex acquired Fibercon, traditionally a supplier of mostly steel fibres to coal mines in Queensland.  With his experience in Manufacturing and Business Consulting he could see the potential in the market for the synthetic fibres, replacing not only traditional steel reinforcement, but also in many cases steel fibres.  With the Construction Industries increasing need to adopt sustainable & environmentally friendly materials on the rise he rebranded the business to Enviromesh. The rebrand came with opportunity to redirect the team, to engage with clients who were interested in innovation and recycled synthetic reinforcement alternatives, with a focus on our eMesh 100% recycled fibre to replace steel mesh reinforcement.

In Europe 25% of all construction utilises fibres which in most cases are more fit for purpose. Enviromesh believes that construction methods in Australia can be more sustainable and if Europe can do it, so can we!  We have invested in innovation, supply chain, CE Global certification and EPDs, we back our products with both environmental and technical expertise to ensure real-world performance.  We currently supply within Australia, New Zealand & The South Pacific and are dedicating ourselves to growth in the UAE in 2026.

What sets Enviromesh apart is our desire to educate, convert and expand fibres positive impact and reach and not just “steal” business from other suppliers of similar products. We truly believe that we can make a difference not just environmentally but in delivering significant operational benefits reducing cost, improving efficiency, asset longevity and safety within a project’s delivery. It is so satisfying as a supplier to hear new customers say that fibres have made their operations easier and they would never go back to the old way.

In May 2025 I, Nicola stepped into the business bringing fresh energy and a strong focus on growth, branding and market engagement.  With a background in the construction industry I had fostered strong relationships over that time with many national contractors which are ideal partners for the growth of Enviromesh.  My involvement reflects a broader commitment to ensuring Enviromesh remains relevant, competitive and sustainable for the long term.

What has been your greatest success?

Our greatest success isn’t a single project or moment – it’s our progress in converting the market to adopt a new technology, to trust a different way of construction and share that success with the next guy !  With over 500 projects now completed we are gaining traction, but still have a long way to go to make fibres a BAU application.  We have worked hard to engage clients and develop long-standing client relationships, repeat business and growing adoption across the industry; proving that innovation when backed by integrity can create real impact.  We use these success stories to capture more opportunity and allow clients to convert with the peace of mind of the quality and performance of our products.

What do you value about FBA?

My father and I  joined Family Business Association because we understand that business is not all smooth sailing and we wanted to be aligned with other families that were also on this journey.  When your colleagues are also your family, the responsibility feels a little heavier.  FBA provides a community where those dynamics are understood and where shared experience, learning and connection are invaluable.

What advice would you give to other family businesses?

Our advice to other family businesses : Communicate openly, respect each other’s values and contribution, as we all have something different to offer.  Most importantly protect the family relationship – because while a business can be rebuilt, relationships are far harder to repair.
