Tell us about your business?

LiftQuip Australia is a company that offers products and services in Lifting, Materials Handling, Height Safety and Load Restraint Equipment. We have branches located in Adelaide, Whyalla and Darwin which are all sales, manufacturing and testing facilities.

We are a family of 5, my wife Peta, oldest daughter Georgia (20), son Nathan (16) and youngest daughter Leah (14). We have 19 staff members in total, with myself and Peta working in the business fulltime, and Georgia and Nathan working on a casual basis. We also have another business which we are majority partners in - Crane Ropes Australia - which specialises in the supply of wire rope and associated services and has another 2 full time employees.

LiftQuip and Crane Ropes Australia share facilities and administration functions. What sets LiftQuip apart from our competition is our people, customer service and our industry experience. We have a really great team that get along well together and this flows through to the work that we do.

What has been your greatest success?

Reaching the size that we are within 8 years being in business and having 3 locations is something that I am very proud of. We have had strong sales growth each year and have reinvested everything back into growing the business. We also have exciting, continued growth plans for the future.

Why did you join FBA?

We are proud of the fact that we are a family business, and wanted to be able to meet and share experiences with other businesses in similar situations.

What advice would you give to other family businesses?

I am very mindful of giving out advice because every business is unique and one size does not fit all. One thing I would say about business in general, is that it is very lonely at times, and you need to ensure that you have business partners and peers in industry who's opinion you respect and be willing to share and bounce ideas with. Also, prioritising getting good people in your team who share the same values as you.
