Topic: Scale-Up Strategies for Family Business

Speakers: Kirk Drage, LeapSheep

Family-owned businesses are often characterised by deep-rooted values, long-term vision, and strong community ties. However, as they transition from one generation to the next or seek to expand beyond their traditional boundaries, these businesses often face unique challenges when it comes to scaling operations sustainably and strategically.

This event will explore the critical strategies, tools, and mindsets that family businesses need to scale effectively while preserving their core identity. Topics will include:

  • Governance and Leadership Transition: Establishing clear roles, succession plans, and decision-making structures to enable smooth generational transitions.

  • Professionalisation and Talent Management: Balancing family involvement with the need for external expertise, and attracting the right talent to support growth.

  • Access to Capital and Financial Planning: Understanding financing options—from reinvestment to private equity—and structuring capital for expansion.

  • Digital Transformation and Innovation: Leveraging technology to streamline operations, improve customer experience, and remain competitive in a fast-evolving market.

  • Sustaining Culture and Values: Scaling without losing the family business’s unique identity, values, and legacy.

  • Case Studies and Success Stories: Real-world insights from family businesses that have successfully navigated the scale-up journey
