Speaker: Duncan Redman from Dare to Dream Mentoring
After becoming a Chartered Accountant, I realised a career in accounting was not my true passion.
As a result, I embarked on a journey to find a career that would truly ignite my passion. That journey took me through a range of high-profile positions with dynamic and complex organisations across three continents, including cities such as London, Hong Kong, Sydney, & Adelaide.
Through this diverse range of experiences, I discovered my true calling: helping business owners align their aspirations in business and life through implementing sustainable changes that create both profitability and personal fulfillment. My approach centres on shifting the perspective of business owners to see opportunities when all they see are challenges by revealing that the answers they seek often already exist within their experience and past successes.
Working with family businesses for over 16 years has taught me sustainable success comes not from imposing external systems, but from unlocking the wisdom and capabilities that already exist in the business and the family. My methodology focuses on addressing the human elements that drive business decisions and family dynamics.
My mission is to bridge the gap between business success and personal satisfaction — helping business owners build a business that serves their life's purpose rather than detract from it. Together, we transform seemingly overwhelming challenges into a purposeful journey that creates space for success in both business and life.
Topic: GROWING PAINS - Does growing a family business have to hurt?
Over the course of his journey in business + life, Duncan Redman was brought up to believe that Growth is good; Bigger is better; If a business is not growing, it is dying. What Duncan has come to understand through working with diverse businesses across multiple industries is that such beliefs are half-truths at best and at worst pure fiction. There is no research that substantiates these are the realities of growing a business successfully. In fact, the research concludes that growth, when it is not effectively managed, will undermine the fundamental strengths of a business leading to its eventual failure. It is for this reason Duncan's presentation will help us understand the implications growth has on business. In this way we will be able to approach growing the business in a way that enhances both profitability and sustainability while preserving what makes the business unique.
