Meet the Francis family, go behind the scenes at their plant and quarry, hear their family story, and see how they have shaped New Zealand by supplying aggregates for major projects across the country.
Road Metals began as North Otago Road Metal, founded in 1955 by Stan Francis. In 1994, North Otago Road Metal became Road Metals following an expansion into Canterbury. Since then, the business has grown to be involved in aggregate production as far afield as Auckland.
Road Metals is currently operated by Stan's sons, Murray Francis, Managing Director and Jonny Francis, Director, alongside current COO Dan Francis, a third-generation leader within the business.
During this special event, you will hear directly from Murray, Jonny and Dan. Together, they will discuss the business, how it began, succession planning, growth, philanthropy and community giving, offering real insights into this 70-year-old business.
It is a chance to see how the Francis's have continued their father's legacy and expanded it into one of New Zealand's most trusted providers of aggregates and concrete.

- Tour of the Plant and Quarry: Go on a bus tour of the plant and quarry, seeing the inner workings of their Christchurch facility, and enjoy a BBQ at their museum.

Road Metals is a family business with a passion for producing and supplying high-quality sand, aggregates, and ready-mix concrete to projects across New Zealand. Their team is committed to delivering exceptional products and service with professionalism and productivity that reflects their family values.
Founded by Stan Francis in 1955 with a one-ton Dodge bought from the proceeds of rabbit trapping. Stan was contracted to buy and cart rabbits and eventually turned this stake into one of the most respected contracting businesses in New Zealand.
Today, Road Metals works with clients on projects ranging from local developments to major infrastructure works across the country. They have supplied materials for some of New Zealand's most significant projects, including the Clyde Dam, Opuha Dam, and Christchurch Motorway developments, as well as aggregate supply in Kaikoura following the 2016 earthquake.
Over 70 years, Road Metals has experienced significant growth, expanding from a single operation to multiple production sites across New Zealand. Now in its second and third generations of family leadership, the business has transformed into one of New Zealand's most trusted providers of aggregates and concrete, continuing the legacy started by Stan Francis while remaining committed to backing local communities across the country.

Event Details
You will meet at the Carlton Bar and Steakhouse and then be taken via bus to the event location at Rollerston Quarry.
Please arrive promptly at 3:55pm for a 4:00pm bus departure. You will board a bus departing towards Rollerston Quarry which will take you on a tour of the plant and quarry before enjoying a BBQ at the museum. The bus will then return you to the Carlton Bar and Steakhouse.
