Topic: Fraud in the Family Business
The discussion will cover off on the basics of understanding financial data and how they may indicate red flags of fraud in family businesses.
Speaker: Laurie Williams, KPMG Forensics division
Laurie is an Associate Director based in KPMG’s Adelaide Forensic practice and has more than 13 years’ experience in forensic accounting. Previously, Laurie worked for almost ten years in a Big Four Firm in the UK, starting as a financial auditor in 2007 before moving to their London based forensic accounting practice in 2011. Laurie also has experience in law enforcement, when he was the Senior Forensic Accountant of the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) South Australia from 2016 to 2020. Laurie specialises in financial investigations, business valuations and assessing economic losses arising from a variety of claims and legal disputes, often involving family owned and operated businesses. He has extensive experience in preparing independent expert witness reports for both civil and criminal proceedings. Laurie is as a Chartered Accountant, Certified Fraud Examiner, Forensic Accounting Specialist and Business Valuation Specialist.
