Family Business Association proudly presents the 25th Anniversary Celebration in Western Australia on Thursday 12 October 2023.

Family-owned businesses are significant contributors to the economic, social and cultural fabric of the countries they operate in and over the past quarter of a century FBA has forged strong partnerships and made a positive impact on family businesses across Australia and New Zealand. Our 25th anniversary presents a wonderful opportunity to pay homage to our past, acknowledge our achievements and envision an even brighter future.

Family Business Excellence Awards

This year we will also be announcing and celebrating your local Family Business Excellence Awards winners over a two-course seated lunch before the program begins.

The well-known proverb "from shirtsleeves to shirtsleeves in three generations" serves as a stark reminder of the challenges that families in businesses face in maintaining their success across multiple generations. And there are exceptional cases that defy the odds. We will have the privilege of hearing from two members, Andrew Mostyn and Steve Samson, who have respectively played pivotal roles in their family businesses to help them thrive for over 280 years collectively.

Facilitated by Donella Caspersz, Steve will highlight valuable experiences from his involvement in the Lionel Samson Sadliers Group, while Andrew will share some important strategies underpinning the Mostyn’s enduring 100-year success as a family in business.

During this conversation, Donella, Andrew and Steve, who have all played significant roles in the growth and success of FBA – and supporting the sector – will also share enlightening "ah-ha"  moments experienced during their involvement with FBA.

Family Business Advisory

The transfer of ownership and management within most family businesses typically goes through several stages, involving successive generations from the founding entrepreneur to sons, daughters, nieces, nephews and so on.

After nearly a century in business, Galvin Engineering has laid out firm plans for its fourth generation of family leadership, with Tim Galvin joining his father and uncle as a co-owner and director.

Facilitated by FBA Accredited Advisor John Broons, third-generation family member Paul Galvin and his son Tim will discuss the transition process, its challenges, and options available for all members of a business-owning family to consider when planning the future involvement of family in their family business.

As a family-owned Australian company, Galvin Engineering has focused on the design and supply of specialised taps, water management systems and fixtures for better health and safer communities – something for both current and future generations to be truly proud of.
