National Family Business Day, 19 September, is dedicated to celebrating the vital role family-owned businesses play in contributing wealth, driving innovation, creating jobs, giving back and fostering a sense of community. We invite you to support, choose, and celebrate family businesses — today, and every day.
Family businesses play an integral role in our social fabric and economy, accounting for 70% of all Australian businesses, 50% of the workforce, and generate an estimated $4.3 trillion in wealth. In New Zealand, family businesses represent a staggering 75% of all businesses, contributing approximately 65% to GDP, and employing around 75% of the workforce.
Beyond their economic contributions, family businesses have a deep-rooted commitment to giving back and supporting the communities where they operate. They sponsor local sports teams, build community infrastructure, and establish foundations.
Everywhere you look there is a family business - small, medium and large and across all industries. Whether it be the local café, hotel or restaurant, independently owned supermarkets, primary producers, manufacturing businesses, all types of service organisations in city centres and the regions, and the list goes on.
FBA has developed a dedicated website, providing key information and collateral for you to use to promote, celebrate and support family business on 19 September. You’ll find key statistics, social media assets, short videos, suggested text and family business stories.
