In conversation with Zoe Katsoulis, Incentives and Culture Manager at St Pierres Sushi.
St Pierres Sushi, Incentives and Culture Manager, Zoe Katsoulis gives her personal insights on her role as a female leader working in a family business in the interview below.
What do you love most about your business?
The career opportunities available for our people. Even though I am not heading down this particular career path myself, I am very proud of our Partnership Program. It allows our exceptional Managers to share in the profits of their branch, without requiring some exorbitant buy-in cost, giving them the career opportunity that just doesn’t exist at other companies within our industry. I am proud that my St Pierre’s shares their success with those who may never have expected it before joining our company.
What is something you wished you knew starting out?
Speak up, and don’t be afraid to stand up for yourself. Sometimes you need to put your foot down.
What have you found to be the biggest hurdle to female leadership?
Being taken seriously is the largest challenge I have had to face in the workplace as a young woman. However, St Pierre’s is quite female-dominated, which I am sure has made my experience easier than others. I have learned the importance of using your voice and following through with what you say.
What do you think are the top 3 habits to successful leadership?
In terms of successful leadership, I have a long way to go. However, working in my family business, I feel it has been important to prioritise different habits in order to not seem like a cliche ‘nepo baby’
-
Respecting your team, and in-turn earning respect

Leading by example

Admitting when you are wrong or when you need help
