Quest Legal, a family-run business dedicated to simplifying business law for individuals and small businesses, is more than just a legal firm. With locations in the heart of Sydney CBD and Perth, their boutique has served clients for over a decade, offering a wide range of personalised services tailored to their unique needs. FBA’s NSW/ACT State Representative, Lisa Jay, spoke with Luisa Perez from Quest Legal to learn more about the family business, Luisa’s legal experiences and how that began her venture into the business.
Luisa's journey began with an unconventional start as an expat in the Netherlands, where she ventured into risk and compliance in a legal role within an international corporate service provider.
Armed with a Bachelor of Medical Science and a Juris Doctor from the University of New South Wales, Luisa's educational pursuits took her to the University of Tilburg in the Netherlands, where she completed her legal studies as an exchange student. Despite the distance, she remained steadfast in her legal aspirations. She completed her practical training remotely and was admitted to the Supreme Court of New South Wales in 2018, marking the beginning of her journey at Quest Legal, a firm founded over 12 years ago by Luisa's father, Juan Perez.
In 2023, Quest Legal won the Franchising WA Supplier of the Year Award for outstanding dedication, hard work, and innovation in the franchise sector. It recently reached the 2024 National finals for Franchise Council of Australia's Supplier of the Year Award.
What do you value about FBA?
I value being a member of Family Business Association not only for the education programs, networking opportunities, and invaluable resources but also for their support and guidance on how to navigate the complexities of a family business effectively. I enjoy being part of a community that truly understands and fosters the unique dynamics of family enterprises.
What advice would you give to other family businesses?
Remember, 'you can pick your friends, but not your family' - or your business partners when it's a family business!
