Last Thursday night, Family Business Association (FBA) members from across Australia gathered for our Winter Warmer events. Despite the chilly weather in most parts of the country, it was great to see so many new and familiar faces enjoying each other’s company, swapping stories, and sharing advice. There is something truly special about these FBA events – like-minded people, who truly understand what it means to be in family business, coming together and creating a supportive and trusting environment for each other. The vulnerability, openness to share, and readiness to assist each other is a testament to the strength and camaraderie of the FBA community – and these latest Winter Warmer events were no exception.

Western Australia

In WA, the Winter Warmer event took place in one of the state’s oldest cellars, the Lionel Samson Cellars. This historic venue, part of Australia's oldest continuously operating family business, offered a unique and memorable setting. Attendees were treated to exquisite Western Australian wines and canapés, along with an exclusive tour of the Lionel Samson Family Museum. Steve Samson graciously shared his family’s rich history, making the night both educational and great fun.

Victoria / Tasmania

Cooper’s Inn, a family-owned pub in Melbourne provided the perfect cosy setting for the VIC/TAS Winter Warmer event. It was great to watch as members opened up about the sensitivities of family dynamics in business. The evening was marked by heartfelt conversations, advice swapping and a strong sense of support and trust among attendees.

South Australia / Northern Territory

SA/NT members joined us at family-owned, Plant 4 Bowden Village in Adelaide, where they explored and tasted a delicious assortment of food and refreshments from all the family-owned vendors within the complex. It was great to see so many members, including one who stopped by in their pajamas on their way to the St Vinnie’s CEO winter sleep out. The evening was topped off with a Quiz Meisters Trivia session.

Queensland

At Queensland’s Winter Warmer at TopGolf, we had first, second and third generations all together, enjoying an evening of friendly competition. FBA CEO Catherine Sayer came up from Melbourne and joined the event, bringing the latest updates from the family business community. There were lots of meaningful conversations, new connections made and of course, a great energy and lots of laughs while people showed off their golf swings and enjoyed each other’s company.

New South Wales / Australian Capital Territory

At Sydney’s Cabana Bar, FBA members came together after work for a great evening. It was great to see a mix of familiar faces and newcomers, who brought a fresh perspective and energy, contributing to the groups lively conversations and enriching networking experience.

Whether you are looking to share stories, offer or receive advice, or simply enjoy each other’s company, FBA networking events – Winter Warmers, Coffee Connects and Sundowners – are a great way to meet like-minded people in the family business community. We hope to see you at an upcoming FBA event soon.
